Abstract of the Disclosure A polyurethene sealing compound, particularly for use in water-blocking telecommunications cables, comprises a product obtained from a mixture, by weight, of 100 parts of hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene, up to 20 parts of an additional diol serving as a chain extender, 5 to 50 parts of isocyanate, and up to 2 parts of water. This compound is used to fill the interstices between individual elements of the cable core as well as between other outermost elements and an unwoven polyester tape wound around the core. The sealing compound may fill the interstices in discrete sections of the cable core to provide for water blocking, or over the entire length of the cable core to provide for solid filling. A polyethylene sheath is extruded onto the unwoven polyester tape layer and a moisture barrier and an outer sheath may be provided around the polyethylene sheath.
