The present invention is related to a water-borne coating composition which has excellemt storage stability and coating appearance. The coating composition employs a specific graft resin having a branch chain with a molecular weight of 1,000 to 4,000 and a principle chain, and has a total molecular weight of 5,000 to 100,000, either the branch chain or the principal chain is hydrophobic and has a solubility parameter of 8.0 to 11.5, the other is hydrophilic and has a solubility parameter of 10.0 to 13.0 and the absolute value of the difference between the solubility parameters is at least 1. The water-borne coating composition of the present invention is especially suitable for electrocoating.
