The present invention provides a water-borne coating composition excellent in smoothness and film appearance. A water-borne coating composition comprising: an emulsion resin obtained by emulsion polymerization of an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated monomer mixture and a urethane compound represented by the general formula (1) or (2): (see formula 1) (see formula 2) wherein the content of said urethane compound is 0.01 to 20% by weight on the solid basis relative to the resin solid in the coating composition. A method of forming a multilayer coating film comprising: applying a water-borne base coating to an article to be coated and then applying a clear coating thereonto, followed by curing by heating, wherein said water-borne base coating is the above--mentioned water-borne coating composition.
La présente invention a pour objet une composition de revêtement à l'eau au poli et à l'apparence excellents. Divulgation d'une composition de revêtement à l'eau comprenant : une résine émulsion obtenue par polymérisation en émulsion d'un mélange de monomères éthyléniques insaturés en position .alpha., .bêta. et d'un uréthane représenté par les formules générales (1) ou (2) (voir la formule 1) (voir la formule 2) dans lesquelles la teneur dudit uréthane est de 0,01 à 20 % en poids sur une base de solide relativement à la résine solide de la composition. On divulgue aussi une méthode pour former un film de revêtement multi-couche comprenant : l'application d'un revêtement à l'eau sur un article à revêtir, puis l'application d'un revêtement transparent suivie d'un durcissement par chauffage, le revêtement à l'eau étant celui susmentionné.
