Abstract of the Disclosure Method for operating the closed water circulation circuit of a tubular cooler in a high-temperature gasifier, more particularly a slag bath generator, characterized in that the flow velocity amounts to between 5 and 7 m/s for a maximum internal diameter of the cooling tubes of 51 mm and the exit temperature of the water is at least 10°C below its boiling temperature at the relevant pressure of the cooling system. According to one embodiment of the method the pressure in the cooling system is at least 40 bar. In a further embodiment the temperature of the cooling water on entering the tubular cooler is 200 to 210°C Further, the pressure of the cooling system is higher than the pressure of the waste heat boiler when gas produced in the gasifier is conducted through said waste heat boiler and the cooling system forms the primary circuit while the waste heat boiler forms the secondary circuit of a two- pressure system.
