A method of the present invention includes exposing a structure to first electromagnetic radiation including at least one wavelength absorbed by a predetermined substance that is to be detected. Such substance can be water, a water-soluble substance, or fungi, the presence of which can be a significant problem in a structure such as a house or building. The method includes sensing second electromagnetic radiation from the structure, the second radiation based on the first radiation. The method also includes determining whether the substance is present in the structure, based on the sensed second radiation. If the substance to be detected is water and the determining step reveals a water-suspect area in the structure, the method can include testing the water-suspect area of the structure to determine whether water is present therein. If water is confirmed by the determination to be present in the structure, the method can include a step of determining the source of the water.
La présente invention concerne un procédé consistant à exposer une structure à un premier rayonnement électromagnétique comportant au moins une longueur d'ondes absorbée par une substance définie à rechercher. La substance recherchée peut être l'eau, une substance hydrosoluble ou un champignon dont la présence peut être source de problèmes importants dans une structure telle qu'une maison ou un bâtiment. Le procédé consiste ensuite, connaissant le premier rayonnement, à détecter un second rayonnement électromagnétique provenant de la structure. Le procédé consiste ensuite à vérifier, d'après le second rayonnement détecté, si la substance recherchée est présente dans la structure. Si la substance recherchée est l'eau et que la phase d'évaluation révèle dans la structure une zone éventuellement humide, le procédé peut se poursuivre par une analyse de cette zone éventuellement humide visant à confirmer la présence d'eau dans la structure. Si cette analyse confirme la présence d'eau dans la structure, on peut compléter le procédé par une recherche de la provenance de l'eau.
