A method is disclosed for use in the design of a water distribution by determining whether to locate a pressure reducing valve (PRV) in a given location comprising the steps of. (a) determining the benefit arising from reduced water leakage achieved by locating a PRV in that location; (b) determining the benefit arising from reduced pipe burst frequency achieved by locating a PRV in that location; (c) determining the benefit arising from at least one other parameter achieved by locating a PRV in that location; (d) determining the cost associated with locating a PRV at that location; (e) calculating a net benefit value using the benefits and costs determined in steps (a) to (d); and (f) locating a PRV in that location if the calculated net benefit value exceeds a predetermined value. Also disclosed is a control method for use in the evaluation of faults, the method comprising the steps of: (a) receiving a fault notification; (b) determining from the fault notification a series of potential causes of the notified fault; (c) de- termining, for each potential cause, an impact evaluation; (d) aggregating the impact evaluations for each potential cause to derive an importance indication for the notified fault.
Linvention concerne un procédé à utiliser lors de la conception dun système de distribution deau en déterminant sil faut placer une vanne de réduction de pression (VRP) à un endroit donné, comprenant les étapes suivantes: (a) déterminer lavantage qui découle dune fuite deau réduite obtenue en installant une VRP à cet endroit; (b) déterminer lavantage qui découle dune fréquence déclatement de conduite réduite obtenue en installant une VRP à cet endroit; (c) déterminer lavantage qui résulte dau moins un autre paramètre obtenu en installant une VRP à cet endroit; (d) déterminer le coût associé à linstallation dune VRP à cet endroit; (e) calculer une valeur de bénéfice nette en utilisant les avantages et les coûts déterminés lors des étapes (a) à (d); et (f) installer une VRP à cet endroit si la valeur de bénéfice nette calculée dépasse une valeur prédéterminée. Linvention concerne également un procédé de commande à utiliser dans lévaluation des pannes, le procédé comprenant les étapes suivantes: (a) recevoir une notification de panne; (b) déterminer à partir de la notification de panne une série de causes potentielles de la panne notifiée; (c) déterminer, pour chaque cause potentielle, une évaluation dimpact; (d) totaliser les évaluations dimpact pour chaque cause potentielle afin de dériver une indication de limportance de la panne notifiée.
