\ WATER INSENSITIVE STARCH FIBERS AND A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Water-insensitive starch fibers having an amylopectin content of about 45 to 100% by weight are prepared by extruding a colloidal starch dispersion in thread-like form into a moving coagulating bath which is an aqueous solution containing at least one coagulating salt, such as ammonium sulfate, ammonium sulfamate, mono-basic ammonium phosphate, dibasic ammonium phosphate or mixtures thereof. Water-insoluble additives may be incorporated into the starch dispersion so as to produce a fiber containing the additive in encapsulated form.
