A water insoluble additive for improving the performance of an ion-exchange membrane, such as in the context of the high temperature operation of electrochemical fuel cells. The insoluble additive comprises a metal oxide cross-linked matrix having phosphonic acid groups covalently attached to the matrix through linkers. In one embodiment, the metal is silicon and the cross- linked matrix is a siloxane cross-linked matrix containing silicon atoms cross- linked by multiple disiloxy bonds and having phosphonic acid groups covalently attached to the silicon atoms through alkanediyl linkers.

Cette invention concerne un additif insoluble dans l'eau permettant d'améliorer les performances d'une membrane échangeuse d'ions, par exemple dans le contexte du fonctionnement à haute température de piles à combustible électrochimiques. Cet additif insoluble comprend une matrice réticulée d'oxyde métallique comprenant des groupes acides phosphoniques liés par covalence à la matrice par des lieurs. Dans un mode de réalisation, le métal est du silicium et la matrice réticulée est une matrice réticulée de siloxane contenant des atomes de silicium réticulés par de multiples liaisons disiloxy et comprenant des groupes acides phosphoniques liés par covalence aux atomes de silicium par des lieurs alcanediyl.
