There is provided water insoluble cross-linked polyhydroxy polycarboxylic acid having at least two strands each having a strand skeleton of forumula (III) wherein one carbonyl group of at least one maleoyl moiety thereof in each strand is covalently linked to a -HN.[(H)p(CH)z.(OH)m].NH- moiety to provide the presence therein of at least one cross linking moiety of formula (V), wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkylene or lower alkoxy of 1-4 carbon atoms, or phenyl, z is an integer of 1 - 4, p is 0 or an integer up to z - 1, m is 1 or an integer up to z, wherein the ratio of cross-links to poly (alkylene carbonic acid) strands is between about 1 and about 200 to 2. There is disclosed a method of making such polyhydroxy polycarboxylic acid as well as methods of utilizing same to remove proteins from aqueous media containing same to provide a matrix. Methods are disclosed for recovering proteins from said matrix without denaturing them and methods for recovering the polyhydroxy polycarboxylic acid from said matrix.
Acide polycarboxylique polyhydroxy réticulé insoluble dans l'eau, comprenant au moins deux brins dont le squelette est représenté par la formule (III) dans laquelle un groupe carbonyle d'au moins une fraction maléoyle de ce dernier dans chaque brin est liée par covalence à la fraction -HN.[(H)¿p?(CH)¿z?.(OH)¿m?].NH- pour assurer la présence d'au moins une fraction réticulante de formule (V), dans laquelle R représente hydrogène ou alkylène inférieur ou alcoxy inférieur contenant 1 à 4 atomes de carbone, ou phényle, z représente un entier compris entre 1 et 4, p vaut 0 ou un entier pouvant aller jusqu'à z-1, m vaut 1 ou un entier inférieur ou égal à z, le rapport entre les réticulations et les brins de poly (acide carbonique alkylène) se situant entre environ 1 et environ 200 pour deux. On décrit un procédé de production de cet acide polycarboxylique polyhydroxy ainsi que des procédés d'utilisation de ce dernier pour éliminer des protéines d'un milieu aqueux afin de produire une matrice, des procédés de récupération des protéines de cette matrice sans les dénaturer et des procédés de récupération de l'acide polycarboxylique polyhydroxy présent dans ladite matrice.
