A wound paperboard tube having enhanced burst strength in high-moisture conditions up to and including complete and prolonged submersion in liquid water comprises a plurality of paperboard plies formed from a pulp comprising papermaking furnish and an effective amount of a size such that the paperboard plies have reduced moisture add-on when submerged in water, relative to paperboard plies formed from a pulp comprising the identical furnish but without the size. The plies are wound one upon another about an axis of the tube and adhered together with a water-resistant adhesive comprising a polyvinyl composition containing a cross-linking agent for inducing cross- linking of the adhesive.
L'invention concerne un tube de carton enroulé présentant une résistance améliorée à l'éclatement dans des conditions d'humidité élevée, allant jusqu'à et comprenant une submersion totale et prolongée dans de l'eau liquide, ledit tube comprenant une pluralité de couches de carton formées à partir d'une pâte comprenant une composition de fabrication de papier et une quantité efficace d'un adjuvant de telle sorte que les couches de carton absorbent moins l'humidité lors d'une submersion dans l'eau, en comparaison de couches de carton formées à partir d'une pâte comprenant la même composition de fabrication mais sans l'adjuvant. Les couches sont enroulées les unes sur les autres autour d'un axe du tube et collées ensemble avec un adhésif résistant à l'eau comprenant une composition de polyvinyle contenant un agent de réticulation destiné à induire la réticulation de l'adhésif.
