ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A new water soluble dye of the anthraquinone series is provided by reacting 1-amino-2-bromo-4-hydroxyanthraquinone with p-(?,?-dimethylbenzyl)phenol and sulfonating the reaction product with oleum under conditions that provide monosulfonation. The resulting acid dye has outstanding strength and fastness properties when used as a colorant for nylon fiber.
