Abstract of the disclosure: New benzoxanthene- and benzothioxanthene-dicarboxylic acid imide compounds containing in the aliphatic or aromatic imide radical one or two water-soluble groups but no sulfo group in the benzene nuclei of the xanthene skeleton, had been found which are suitable as dyestuffs for dyeing or printing natural or synthetic polyamide and have very good dyeing and fastness properties, especially a good fastness to alkali and a good dyeing behavior to texturized polyamide fibres contain- ing differently drawn fibre moieties which were dyed in even shades.
