ABSTRACT Water soluble triazole dyes are prepared diazotizing a 2-(4- aminophenyl)-2H-naphtho[1,2-d]triazole sulfonic acid and coupling the result- ing diazonium salt to a barbituric acid. The resultant triazole dyes are compounds having the structure: Image wherein M is H, Na, K, Li, N(R)3H and R is H, lower alkyl or lower hydroxy alkyl and R1 is oxygen, sulfur, imino, lower alkylimino, cyanimino and car- bamoylimino. The triazole dyes are useful as fluorescent greenish-yellow paper dyes and, as such, exhibit excellent substantivity and tinctorial strength as well as very good properties from the standpoint of bleachabil- ity and fastness to light and bleeding.
