ABSTRACT The invention comprises a water spray fitting for controlling the flow of water from a pressure water supply, typically a domestic garden hose. The fitting comprises a body adapted to be connected to the water supply and having a hollow interior with a water inlet and a water outlet. An internally threaded control ring is located in a transverse cut out part of the body and is rotatable therein about its longitudinal axis to adjust the flow of water from the fitting. A valve member extends longitudinally within the interior of the fitting and is threaded into the control ring such that rotation of the control ring causes longitudinal movement of the valve member within the interior of the fitting. The valve member has a distal end which engages the water outlet of the fitting to control the flow of water therefrom. Movement of the valve member by way of the control ring alters the position of the distal end of the valve member relative to the water outlet. Means sealing the valve member to the interior of the fitting on either side of the control ring and a passage for water internally through the valve member from the water inlet side to the water outlet side beyond the control ring are provided. The valve member is formed such that the forces applied to the valve member in use of the fitting by rearwardly and forwardly directed water pressure are substantially balanced. Adjustment of the water flow is not made difficult by back pressure acting on the internal components of the fitting. With the control ring arrangement the fitting may typically be adjusted in a one-handed operation.
