ABSTRACT An improved waterbed mattress with adjustable hydrostatic wave absorption comprising an outer water-inflatable bag-like enclosure provided with an inner wave-absorbing water bladder. When a user sits or lies on a conventional waterbed an undesir- able wave front is created in the water contained in the water- bed mattress. The inner wave-absorbing water bladder of the present invention absorbs and diminishes this wave front and shifts its phase. The water bladder also changes its shape vertically and horizontally to block off the wave front and substantially seals off the balance of the enclosure from wave movement.
