A waterborne coating composition for metal substrates comprising (a) a formaldehyde-containing resin, and (b) a formaldehyde scavenger consisting essentially of an organic compound having at least one active methylene hydrogen and a pKa of about 5 to about 13, wherein the formaldehyde scavenger is present in a sufficient amount to maintain the concentration of free formaldehyde in the composition at less than 0.1 % by weight.

Cette composition de revêtement pour substrats métalliques comporte, (a), une résine renfermant du formaldéhyde et (b), un accepteur de formaldéhyde constitué, essentiellement, d'un composé organique comportant au moins un hydrogène de méthylène et ayant un pKa compris entre environ 5 et environ 13. L'accepteur de formaldéhyde est présent sous une quantité suffisante lui permettant de maintenir la teneur de la composition en formaldéhyde libre à moins de 0,1 % en poids.
