The invention relates to a method of making waterborne multifunctional materials, especially waterborne multifunctional materials comprising at least one primary carbamate group and a grafting moiety (cii). The method of the invention requires the successive or simultaneous reactions of a material P with a grafting material (c) and ammonia. Material P comprises two or more cyclic carbonate groups (bi). Grafting material (c) comprises at least one amine group (ci) and a grafting moiety (cii). The amine group (ci) is selected from primary amines, secondary amines, and mixtures thereof. The resulting waterborne multifunctional materials may be water dispersible, water soluble and/or useful in electrodeposition coatings.

L'invention porte sur un procédé d'obtention de produits à l'eau plurifonctionnels et spécialement de tels produits comprenant au moins un groupe carbamate primaire et un fragment de greffage (cii). Ledit procédé requiert des réactions successives ou simultanées d'un produit P avec un matériau de greffage (c) ou de l'ammoniac, le produit P comprenant deux groupes carbonate cycliques (bi). Le produit de greffage (c) comporte au moins un groupe amino (ci) et un fragment de greffage (cii). Les produits à l'eau plurifonctionnels résultants peuvent être hydrodispersibles, hydrosolubles et/ou servir pour l'électrodéposition de revêtements.
