This invention provides an improved design for a wooden hull construction for a watercraft, particularly a canoe. The hull construction is a multiplicity of boards each individually secured to adjacent boards while maintaining substantially all of the wood fibres in the hull in parallel alignment. In the hull construction of the invention with a single layer of boards, the boards are secured together in parallel alignment along their lateral edges with adhesive. In multiple layer hull constructions of the invention each layer of parallel hull boards is secured to the next with board edge seams substantially offset from the board edge seams of an adjacent layer. Individual boards are secured directly to adjacent boards in the same layer or to boards in the adjacent layer, or both. The hull boards are aligned substantially transversely, i.e. gunwale to gunwale, of the watercraft. Additionally components of the watercraft are attached to the hull by expansion connections permitting a degree of movement between these components and the hull across the grain of the hull boards to accommodate expansion and contraction.
