WATERFLOODING EMPLOYING MIXTURES OF SULFONATE SURFACTANTS Abstract of the Disclosure The recovery of oil by waterflooding in which mobility control is accomplished by the injection of a thickened aqueous liquid containing a mixture of sulfonate surfactants, one of which is a petroleum sulfonate having a relatively broad molecular weight distribution and the other a synthetic alkyl or alkylaryl sulfonate having a molecular weight distribution narrower than that of the petroleum sulfonate. The surfactants are employed in concentrations such that the ratio of the petroleum sulfonate to the synthetic sulfonate is within the range of 1:3-1:1. The thickened aqueous liquid has a monovalent salt salinity within the range of 1.5-4.0 weight percent and may optionally contain a water-soluble C3-C6 aliphatic alcohol. -1-
