ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure describes a process for the manufac- ture of water gel explosives with improved performance charac- teristics, which explosives contain combustible materials, oxidizing agents, a gelling agent, water, sensitizers, and expanded thermoplastic microspheres as gas carriers. The manufacture is carried out in various successive steps. In a first step, the microspheres are expanded in a concentrated solution or eutectic melt consisting of part of the components of the explosive, the solution or melt having an oxygen balance which does not make the solution or. melt a safety risk at the temperature required for the expansion of the micro- spheres. Then, in one or more steps at a lower temperature acceptable from a safety point of view the remaining components of the explosives, including the sensitizers, are admixed. This process has the advantage of satisfying rigorous demands for safety.
