ABSTRACT This disclosure is directed to a catalyst which is use- ful for promoting the exchange of hydrogen in water for deuterium in hydrogen gas to enrich the concentration of deuterium in water. The catalyst comprises an inert support, a hydrophobic resin coat- ing, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, and an active catalytic agent, such as platinum on carbon or other high surface area carrier. The catalyst is made by first coating the support with a polytetrafluoroethylene emulsion which is then dried. Platinum on carbon or the like is admixed with another polytetrafluoroethy- lene emulsion and this admixture is then applied to the support and dried.
