An integrated optical waveguide (2) with an end face (2A), the end face (2A) being provided on an end portion with a greater width than the waveguide (2), e.g. in the form of a T-bar (2B) provided at the end of the waveguide (2), whereby the rounding effect produced by the manufacturing process, e.g. etching, used to form the end face (2A) does not affect the flatness of the portion of the end face (2A) through which the majority of light is transmitted. The T-bar (2B) is preferably inclined so the normal of the end face (2A) is inclined to the optical axis of the waveguide (2) to reduce back reflection therefrom. A plurality of waveguides (6, 7, 8) may terminate in a common T-bar (6B).

On décrit un guide d'onde optique intégré (2) qui comprend une surface transversale (2A) munie d'une partie d'extrémité (2) (en forme de barre en T (2B), p. ex.) plus large que le guide d'onde et disposée à l'extrémité de celui-ci. L'effet d'arrondi obtenu suivant le procédé de fabrication (gravure, par exemple) mis en oeuvre pour former la surface transversale (2A) ne nuit pas à la planéité de la partie de la surface transversale (2A) à travers laquelle la majeure partie de la lumière est transmise. La barre en T (2B) est, de préférence, inclinée de sorte que l'axe perpendiculaire de la surface transversale (2A) soit inclinée vers l'axe optique du guide d'onde (2) pour diminuer la réflexion qui en émane. On décrit une pluralité de guide d'onde (6, 7, 8) pouvant avoir une extrémité en forme de barre en T commune (6B).
