A system for modifying an input optical signal by reducing its bandwidth and modifying its central wavelength has an optical circulator with at least three ports and at least two optical filters coupled to consecutive ports of the circulator. The first filter produces a predetermined reflected band off the input optical signal. The second filter produces a predetermined transmission band as a part of the reflected band. Either or both of the optical filters are tunable to shape and trim the input signal in a predetermined manner. A multi-channel and cascade configurations may be formed. The system may serve e.g. as a tunablefilter or as an add/drop module in WDM communication networks.

L'invention est un système qui sert à modifier un signal lumineux en réduisant sa largeur de bande et en modifiant sa longueur d'onde centrale. Le système de l'invention comporte un oscillateur optique doté de trois ports au moins et de deux filtres optiques au moins couplés à des ports consécutifs. Le premier filtre produit une bande de signaux réfléchis prédéterminée sans chevauchement avec celle du signal lumineux d'entrée. Le second filtre produit une bande de transmission prédéterminée faisant partie de la bande réfléchie. Les deux filtres optiques peuvent être accordés indépendamment l'un de l'autre pour conformer le signal d'entrée de façon prédéterminée et lui apporter un réglage d'appoint. On peut former des configurations multicanal et en cascade. Le système peut servir par exemple de filtre accordable ou de module d'insertion-extraction dans les réseaux de communication à multiplexage optique.
