A wavelength division multiplex (WDM) optical telecommunications network comprises a plurality of nodes (110,112,114,116) interconnected by optical fibre waveguides (4,6). Communication traffic is communicated between nodes by optical radiation modulated with the communication traffic, said radiation being partitioned into a plurality (N) of wavelength channels each channel having a discrete non-overlapping waveband (.lambda.1 to .lambda.N). Each node includes means for dropping at least one of the wavelength channels to thereby define a connection to said node and includes means for adding at least one wavelength channel to the network to define a connection to another node of the network. The network is characterised in that: at least one node (2) has ascribed to it a fixed subset (Mi) of the N wavelength channels and includes means (12:42, 44) for dropping each of the wavelength channels (.lambda.a to .lambda.d) of the fixed subset (Mi) from the network. The node further comprises wavelength selectable means (14,30,32,34) capable of adding one or more of at least any of the remaining wavelength channels other than the subset to the network to define a connection to another node of the network.

L'invention concerne un réseau de télécommunications optiques à multiplexage MRL, qui comprend plusieurs noeuds (110,112,114,116) reliés par des guides d'ondes à fibres optiques (4,6). La communication est assurée entre les noeuds par un rayonnement optique modulé avec le trafic, ce rayonnement étant divisé en plusieurs (N) canaux de longueur d'onde à bande discrète sans chevauchement (?¿1?à ?<SB>N</SB>). Chaque noeud comporte un système d'élimination d'au moins un canal, permettant de définir une connexion avec le noeud considéré, et il comporte un système d'adjonction d'au moins un canal au réseau, permettant de définir une connexion avec un autre noeud du réseau. Dans le réseau, au moins un noeud (2) comporte un sous-ensemble fixe (M¿i?) des N canaux, et il existe un système (12:42, 44) d'élimination de chacun des canaux (?¿a? à ?¿d?) du sous-ensemble (M¿i?) à partir du réseau. Chaque noeud comprend aussi un système sélectionnable en longueur d'onde (14,30,32,34) permettant d'ajouter au réseau un ou plusieurs canaux parmi au moins les canaux restants autres que ceux du sous-ensemble, afin de définir une connexion avec un autre noeud du réseau.
