ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a wavelength filter integrated into an optical waveguide and to a method for manufacturing same. The optical waveguide is constituted of a fiber of light transmitting material on which is formed a plurality of biconical tapered portions which constitute the wavelength filter. The characteristics of the filter are governed by the number of biconical tapers and their respective profiles. The tapers are preferably formed by heating locally and stretching a conventional monomode optical fiber or by adding tapers in a monomode optical fiber, such as by splicing.
