ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a wavelength multi- plexer, with optical waveguides by evanescent wave coupling. It comprises a first optical guide (2a) which is single-mode at the wavelength .lambda.1 and a second optical guide (2b) guiding the entrance wave of wavelength .lambda.2. These guides have a core and an optical cladding and converge in an interaction zone. The cores of the first and second guides being in proximity to one another and defining an interaction length and coupling lengths for each wavelength .lambda.1, .lambda.2. According to the invention .lambda., is greater than .lambda.2 and the interaction length is equal to the coupling length for .lambda.1.
