EARLY WARNING SYSTEM FOR INDICATING WEAR IN A SURFACE Abstract of the Disclosure An early warning system for a material transfer system having an area to be monitored for internal wear caused by erosive flow action between the area and a transfer material. An inner container or conduit defines the monitored surface area and has an inner surface in contact with the transfer material and an outer surface opposite the inner surface. An outer layer or container surrounds the inner surface and is associated with the outer surface of the inner container. The inner container is colored to contrast with the transfer material. Alternatively, a colored layer and/or a conductor are located between the inner layer and outer layer. The colored container or colored layer indicates wear by an eroded area which can be visually noticed through the outer translucent layer. The conductor indicates wear by the discontinuity which is created by the wearing away of the conductor by the transfer material at the wear-through point.
