In a method for manufacturing a wear plate made of a base layer and a top layer, the base layer and the top layer are non-detachably connected to one another. At least the top layer is separated into area segments by producing grooves extending from a top surface of the top layer toward the base layer. Subsequently, the top layer is hardened such that the top layer has a wear resistance that is greater than the wear resistance of the base layer. The grooves reduce significantly warping as a result of hardening and also allow shaping of the wear plate to non-planar , arrangements.
