Weather-resistant mineral and protein supplement feeds for animals and methods of making same are disclosed. A trace mineral premix in the form of free-flowing granules is produced in a series of steps comprising (1) mixing a liquid binder with a relatively coarse granular feed ingredient to provide damp binder-coated cores, (2) while damp, the binder-coated cores are mixed with a trace mineral base mix, (3) the cores with their outer layers of trace minerals are mixed with substances which impart water-resistant sheaths thereto, and (4) dusting powder is applied to complete the formation of trace mineral premix granules. The premix granules are mixed with coarse granular macromineral feed ingredients, iron oxide and a water-resistant coating solution to form weather-resistant mineral feed granules. In a preferred embodiment, the water-resistant sheathes are formed by mixing the product of step (2) with a fatty acid and depositing thereon a metal oxide with which it reacts. Alternatively, the premixgranules are mixed with coarse granular macromineral feed ingredients, iron oxide, liquids including a water-resistant coating solution, and one or more of a proteinaceous ingredient to form weather-resistant protein supplement feed granules.
L'invention porte sur des aliments pour animaux complémentaires en minéraux et protéines et résistant aux intempéries, et sur leurs procédés de fabrication. Un prémélange d'oligo-éléments se présentant sous forme de granules à écoulement libre est produit en série selon un procédé consistant à: (1) mélanger un liant liquide avec un ingrédient d'apport de granules relativement grossiers de façon à obtenir des noyaux humides recouverts d'un liant, (2) tandis que les noyaux humides recouverts d'un liant sont mélangés à un mélange de base d'oligo-éléments, (3) les noyaux et leurs couches externes d'oligo-éléments sont mélangés à des substances qui confèrent aux gaines une résistance à l'eau, et (4) une poudre est appliquée pour achever la formation des granules constitués du prémélange d'oligo-éléments. Les granules du prémélange sont mélangés à des ingrédients d'apport macrominéral sous forme de grains grossiers, à de l'oxyde de fer et à une solution d'enrobage résistant à l'eau de façon à former des granules d'apport minéral résistant aux intempéries. Selon une réalisation préférée, on forme les gaines résistant à l'eau en mélangeant le produit de l'étape (2) avec un acide gras et en y déposant un oxyde métallique avec lequel il réagit. Dans une autre variante, les granules du prémélange sont mélangés avec des ingrédients d'apport macrominéral sous forme de granules grossiers, avec de l'oxyde de fer, des liquides y compris une solution d'enrobage résistant à l'eau, et avec un ou plusieurs ingrédients protéiniques de façon à former des granules d'apport complémentaire en protéines résistant aux intempéries.
