ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An upper and a lower rubber-covered cylinder/plate cylinder pair is disclosed and can be operated in the obverse-side and reverse-side printing mode, as well as with on- the-run plate changing. For the on-the-run plate changing mode, involving the activation of either of one of two couplings the action of a main drive is transmitted via a printing unit cylinder directly to the drive wheels of an upper rubber-covered cylinder/plate cylinder pair, or from a counter-pressure cylinder, on activation of one coupling via cooperating gear wheels to a lower rubber-covered cylinder/plate cylinder pair. In the obverse-side and reverse-side printing mode only one of the couplings is activated, and a further coupling affixed to the shaft of the rubber-covered cylinder to drive the lower rubber-covered cylinder/plate cylinder pair, via a gear wheel loosely mounted on the shaft, in the on-the-run plate changing mode, in the reverse direction of rotation to that in the two-fold obverse-side printing mode.
