ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hybrid twin-wire former of a paper or board making machine has a planar first dewatering section in which the upper run of the lower wire loop is generally horizontal to form a first dewatering zone. A second dewatering zone, in which the dewatering through the top wire takes place while the dewatering through the bottom wire is retarded, is provided with the two wires disposed closely to each other with the formed web sandwiched therebetween. The second zone is coplanar with the first zone. A third zone, in which the wires still hold the web at both surfaces, is typical by a curved path in which centrifugal force may be active in further dewatering. Eventually, the upper wire is deflected off the lower wire while simultaneously subjecting the web to suction through the lower wire to keep the web supported on the lower wire. The advance in the art is in that the device is capable of operating both in the field of high speed machines and in relatively slow paperboard making machines.
