A process and apparatus related to a workstation adjacent to a traveling web including a device for intermittently performing an operation affecting the web. An important application involves ultrasonically welding multiple layers of a traveling web. First and second rollers on opposite sides of the workstation are simultaneously shifted in a direction counter to the machine direction each time a bonding force is applied. The overall running speed in the machine remains at a constant velocity due to the resultant festooning effect and thus the dwell time for bonding is increased. Thus the effective operating speed of processed having finite limits may be increased at least 33%. The first and second rollers are eccentrically rotationally mounted, respectively, on third and fourth hollow rollers which are provided with eccentrically positioned hollow cylindrical openings which, in turn, are mounted, respectively, on shafts positioned perpendicularly to the machine direction. Shifting of the rollers is effected by simultaneous rotation of the rollers. Preferably, the first and second rollers are driven synchronously in a first rotational direction and the third and fourth rollers are driven synchronously in the opposite rotational direction.
Un procédé et un appareil connexes à un poste de travail adjacent à un tissu défilant comprenant un dispositif pour exécuter de manière intermittente une opération visant le tissu. Une application importante fait appel au soudage par ultrasons de couches multiples d'un tissu défilant. Les premier et second rouleaux sur les côtés opposés du poste de travail sont décalés simultanément dans la direction inverse de celle de la machine chaque fois qu'une force de liage est appliquée. La vitesse globale de fonctionnement de la machine demeure constante en raison de l'effet de guirlande qui en résulte et, par conséquent, le temps de maintien pour le liage est accru. Ainsi, la vitesse de marche efficace du procédé ayant des limites finies peut être accrue d'au moins 33 %. Le premier et le second rouleaux sont montés pour tourner de façon excentrique respectivement sur un troisième et un quatrième rouleaux qui sont dotés d'ouvertures cylindriques creuses positionnées de manière excentrique, qui sont montées respectivement sur des arbres placés perpendiculairement à la direction de la machine. Le décalage des rouleaux s'effectue par rotation simultanée des rouleaux. De préférence, le premier et le second rouleaux sont entraînés en synchronisation dans un premier sens de rotation et le troisième et le quatrième rouleaux sont entraînés en synchronisation dans un sens de rotation inverse.
