A weighing apparatus for weighing the axle weight of a vehicle comprises an entry ramp (11, 12) over which the vehicle can be driven to cause the wheel to be raised from the ground. The entry ramp (11, 12) leads to a support (14, 15, 17, 18) on which a weighbridge (16) is located at a raised level from the ground. An exit ramp (19, 20) is provided between the support (14, 15, 17, 18) and the ground. A water bath (13) is provided between the entry ramp (11, 12) and the weighbridge (16) for washing the vehicle wheels prior to their being driven over the weighbridge (16).
