A weighing apparatus (10) including a load receiving platform, (30) a dial, (40) and a moving indicator (50). Dial (40) includes a face (41) bearing various indicia (42, 43, 44) for indicating the weight of a load placed upon platform (30). A magnifier (60) is operatively associated with the indicator (50) for magnifying only a limited portion (76) of the face of the dial (40) in proximity tot he indicator. A lamp, (70) carried by the indicator, (50) illuminates a limited portion (76) of the face of the dial in proximity to the indicator. A switch (89) actuates lamp (70) upon placement of a load upon platform (30).
