ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for automatically weighing and separating specific individual quantities of a bulk material such as tobacco in which during the weighing operation the weighing container is supported on a carrier which is normally maintained in a raised position by the action of an electro- magnetic measuring coil acting on a weighing arm attached to the carrier. After the weighing operation is completed, the coil is shut off so that the weighing container drops into engagement with a fixed supporting frame and the carrier drops freely away from and separates from the weighing container, so that the weighing arm and coil are protected from vibration and shock.
