ABSTRACT Apparatus for automatically sorting fruit and the like by weight or color, or both, using conveyance means to move objects to be sorted past electromechanical weighing means and optical color sensing means which, in conjunction with sequential and combinational logic, compare the color and weight of the item to a predetermined criteria and sort according thereto. The electromechanical weighing means is incorporated in a track along which the fruit is conveyed and includes a damped transducer which generates a sign- al corresponding to the weight of each item to be sorted.
