Abstract: A scale for measuring the weight of an object detects a change in electrostatic capacity due to a change in the distance between a pair of electrodes. For this purpose a pressure sensitive sensor has flat plates composed of two elastic insulators glued parallel to each other with a predetermined gap between electrodes provided on confronting sides of the flat plates. This gap is enclosed to prevent entry of dust or moisture between the plates, except for a small hole that allows pressure equalising air to pass through. The surfaces of the sensor are coated with a water-repellent substance to eliminate effects of leakage current due to any deposit of dust or moisture on the surface. As a result, the weight can be measured accurately, avoiding errors due to temperature or humidity changes.
