A weight distributing and sway controlling hitch assembly for towing a trailer behind a vehicle includes a hitch bar for mounting to a vehicle. The hitch assembly also includes a ball mount head carried on the hitch bar and a hitch connector carried on the ball mount head. A pair of spring bar retaining brackets are mounted to and project outwardly from the trailer. A pair of friction pads are also provided. One friction pad is mounted to each spring bar retaining bracket. Additionally, the hitch assembly includes a pair of shoes, each of the shoes being received on one of the pair of friction pads while allowing relative sliding movement thereto. Still further, the hitch assembly includes a pair of spring bars for distributing trailer weight relative to the vehicle. Each of the spring bars includes a proximal end mounted to the ball mount head and a distal end for engaging one of the shoes. Preferably, each spring bar retaining bracket is substantially L-shaped and carries one of these friction pads on a first leg and a trailer fastener on a second leg.
Le présent brevet vise un attelage de répartition des charges et de contrôle du balancement servant à tirer une remorque derrière un véhicule. L'attelage se compose d'une barre d'attelage, de la tête d'une monture à rotule fixée à la barre d'attelage et d'un raccord d'attelage supporté par la tête de la monture à rotule. Deux supports à barre de ressort sont montés en saillie sur la remorque. Deux garnitures de frottement sont aussi posées. Chaque support à barre de ressort est muni d'une de ces garnitures. De plus, l'attelage comprend une paire de patins montés séparément sur une paire de garnitures de frottement de manière à admettre un certain glissement. L'attelage comprend également deux barres à ressort répartissant le poids de la remorque sur l'ensemble du véhicule. Chaque barre à ressort est munie d'une extrémité proximale fixée sur la tête de la monture à pivot et d'une extrémité distale recevant un des patins. Chaque support à barre de ressort est de préférence façonné en L et porte une de ces garnitures de frottement sur un pied et une attache pour remorque sur un deuxième pied.
