The weight holder device for use in combination with a variable weight lifting exercise apparatus that includes a weight stack in the frame formed of several plates of equal size and weight, each plate has a vertical central through hole and a horizontal hole extending from a side of the plate to the central hole, and a vertical plate lifting rod extending through the central holes of the plates and adapted to be displaced in an up-and-down movement by a user, the plate lifting rod has at least one horizontal through bore. The weight holder device comprises a shear pin removably inserted through both the horizontal hole and the through bore and supports a variable number of upper plates of the stack, at least one end of the pin protrudes from the side of the supported plates, a holder formed by the protruding end of the pin retains a fractional weight releasably suspended therefrom. The holder includes an outer and an inner spaced discs radially extending from and coaxial with the pin.
