A B S T R A C T An electric welding torch adapted to hold an electrode comprises a helically fluted tube made of flexible material and adapted to surround a por- tion of the electrode inserted in the tube. Means is provided for mounting the tube in the torch and permitting relative rotation of displaced portions of the tube along the electrode for selectively hold- ing the electrode in the tube by physical engagement of helical land portions of the tube against the sur- face of the electrode and for releasing the electrode by twisting of the tube in a direction opposite that of the spiral flutes or by application of axial com- pression of the tube.
