ABSTRACT a low alloy, high strength steel well casing exhibiting excellent resistence to hydrogen sulfide stress corrosion and high yield strength of from 90,000 to 145,000 psi comprised of an aluminum-killed steel alloyed with chromium, molybdenum and vanadium. A method of making such a steel including a quench and temper heat treatment characterized by the steps of austenitizing in the range of from 1550 to 1700°F, quenching to martensite, and tempering in the range of from 1200 to 1400°F to a maximum hardness of 35RC.
