ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved well logging system and method is pro- vided for deriving and visibly displaying subsurface earth measurements in a more informative and useful manner. In particular, the logging measurements are preferably derived in or converted to digital form, and are thereafter applied to video circuits for graphic display as the measurements are derived in the borehole. More particularly, the video cir- cuitry preferably includes a cathode ray tube or the like, whereby an image is continually scrolled in correlation with movement of the sonde through the borehole and whereby a visible representation of a preselected portion of the measure- ment may be continuously observed as it is obtained. A feature of this system and method is a simplified memory technique, wherein the number of data coordinates required to be stored has been greatly reduced. Another feature of this system and method includes a novel technique for scrolling the indexing lines in coordination with deriving and scrolling the logging measurements being displayed therewith. A further feature of this system and method includes a novel technique for causing the displayed image to scroll in functional relationship to the arrival of the logging measurement at the surface.
