Abstract of the Disclosure A process for treating a subterranean zone by emplacing therein a composition of a hardenable aqueous slurry where the slurry comprises water, a hydraulic cement and a set retarding agent and permitting the slurry to harden, wherein the set retarding agent is selected from amino-N-((alkylidene)phosphonic acids)- -bearing compounds or salts thereof. The composition and process of employing the same is particularly useful in the treatment of oil and gas wells at elevated temperatures.
