ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A wet ash remover which comprises a conveyor and a hydraulic transmission means with a controllable variable speed output. Increase of ash load on the conveyor increases pressure of working fluid in the hydraulic transmission means, which is monitored and caused to act on a setting drive to vary the transmission output speed. An electric motor operates the hydraulic transmission means which consists of a pump and a motor. The housing for the pump can be varied in eccentricity with respect to its rotor for altering rate of flow of fluid in the pump, and thus through the motor, and therefore to change the output speed of the transmission means.
