A wet ash remover installation includes a first wet ash remover which is placed in operating position under an ash funnel of a boiler and a second, similar, movable wet ash remover placed in reserve position. The wet ash removers respectively consist of a water-filled trough which houses a conveying implement and in which a dip member connected to the ash funnel is immersed. Each trough is provided in one of the side walls and at the same height with an opening extending to the upper edge of the side wall, the opening having a width which corresponds to at least the width of the dip member and a height which corresponds to at least the maximum depth of immersion of the dip member in the trough. The opening is surrounded by a frame supporting a compressible seal and is closed by a rotatable gate which engages the opening from the inside. The openings are positioned in the respectively opposing side walls of the wet ash removers and the wet ash removers are provided with coupling elements for connection of the wet ash removers in a condition wherein the side walls including the openings are mutually adjacent and the openings are directly opposite one another.
