ABSTRACT A wet deasher for boilers in which ash is discharged into quench water carried in a trough beneath the boiler and in which conveyor equipment discharges ash from the trough. Quench water is circulated through the trough between a feed and an overflow with a separator means adjacent the overflow for preventing large particles of ash from being carried over in the quench water. The overflow passes to a pump feeder tank with heat exchanger means arranged in the tank for cooling the water and with an inclined bottom to the tank leading to the outlet for the circulating pump. Baffles constrain the flow of quench water through the tank so that it is swept successively through defined sections of the heat exchanger. Means are provided for ensuring that any ash happening to settle out in the feeder tank is carried back to the pump.
