In a wet paper web transfer belt comprising a base body, a wet paper web side layer, and a machine side layer, the wet paper web side layer is formed of a high molecular weight elastic section having fibers protruding from its surface. The protruding fibers hold water from a wet paper web and therefore, the transfer of a wet paper web by attachment to the transfer belt, and the smoothness of removal of the wet paper web from the transfer belt when the web is transferred to the next stage of the papermaking process, are both improved without decreasing the durability of the transfer belt.
