ABSTRACT A wet separator for purifying polluted conditioning air and separative solid and semi-liquid particles, especially paint particles in the outlet of a spray painting booth (1). For this purpose, there is a series of outlets (46 and 47) with surfaces converging in the direction of flow and finally a neck (38) or throat (45) which is intended to increase the speed of passing media by throttling and thus achieve mixing of air, water and pollutants. According to the invention, beyond the first outlet (46) in the direction of flow there is a dispersing chamber (40) for further mixing and atomizing the mixture, which chamber terminates in the direction of flow in the second outlet (47), which is designed as a venturi with a more extensively throttled venturi opening (45) defined by a flange (42) extending into said opening. The outlets may be interconnected by a guiding surface (35), on which a dispersing stream (48) of water droplets, air and pollutions impinge with flat angle of impact adjacent to the outlet at the end of the guiding surface. The impact area provides a special disintegration zone in front of the second outlet serving as a sound absorbing cover (Fig. 2). Alternatively intermediate outlets may cause tortuous flow through the dispersing chamber (40, 40') providing an extended path which retards transmission of noise from the final outlet (47) back to the booth (Fig. 6).
