Disclosed is a wet-type flue gas desulfurization plant which comprises, an absorber including an inlet duct and an outlet duct and being integrally provided on an upper portion of a circulation tank. The absorber is of a self-supporting structure supported by the circulation tank. At least an uppermost-stream spraying stage in a spraying zone in the inlet duct includes a spray pipe provided with spray nozzles for spraying an absorbing liquid (e.g., a slurry of limestone or lime), in a direction parallel to a gas flow, and at least a downmost-stream spraying stage includes spray nozzles for spraying the absorbing liquid in a direction counter to the gas flow. The absorber is of an integral structure in which the upper portion of the circulation tank forms a part of the duct, whereby the absorber arrangement is self-supportable and moreover, is of a simple structure, leading to a high strength thereof and an elimination of the need for provision of fitments for supporting the tower duct portion.
