A conventional wheel chair is modified by the provision of a safety system for automatically actuating the brakes of the wheel chair and lifting the foot rests when the weight of the patient is lifted from the seat. An overcentre spring arrangement is used to bias the brake mechanism into the braking position and is pulled over centre by a solenoid actuated by a switch under the seat. The actuation of the brake mechanism is communicated to the foot pedals by a connection cable which pulls a latch pin to release the spring biased foot pedal into the retracted position.

L'invention concerne un fauteuil roulant traditionnel auquel on ajoute un système de sécurité permettant d'actionner automatiquement les freins et de relever le repose-pieds lorsque l'occupant est soulevé du siège. Un ressort à arc-boutement sert à ramener le mécanisme de frein en position de freinage et est tiré vers le centre par un solénoïde actionné par un commutateur sous le siège. La mise en marche du mécanisme de frein est communiquée aux pédales par un câble de connexion qui tire une goupille de verrouillage pour dégager la pédale à ressort et l'amener en position rétractée.
